Glenhaven Farm offers eleven acres of you-pick blueberries. The length and time of the season varies depending on weather conditions. The season begins in late July and in a good year extends through the first part of September. Our farm features:
In the spring of 1979, with the help of friends and neighbors, we planted our first acre of blueberries on our 50-acre farm in the town of Hector in central New York. We added more plants each year for the following three seasons, ending up with about eleven acres in total. By the late eighties, our season had begun to extend for several weeks, and customers began to arrive from as far away as Pennsylvania to pick our blueberries. Since then, we have seen many families of children grow up from year to year. Likewise, our customers have seen our son develop into a fine young man, graduate from college and join the Peace Corps as a volunteer in Moldova (Eastern Europe).
In 2003 we converted an old carriage house on the farm to a tasting room and began selling wines during the you-pick blueberry season. Because we began our business selling blueberries, an important goal is to produce the best blueberry wine in the Finger Lakes region.
Today, we are Glenhaven Farm Winery--a graceful farm in the New York Finger Lakes Region known for our "you pick" blueberries and wonderful, small batch wines. We have been one of the first to embrace local first, producing our delicious fruit for well on thirty years. Our berries give us pleasure as fruit and as the starting point for our wines and fruit-based wines. We celebrate that spirit of simpler times here at the farm, at the Ithaca Farmers Market and as proud community members in Trumansburg.
Enjoy peaceful pace of summer while berry picking, or while tasting wines made from a variety of fruits from grapes to our signature berry wines (Black Current, Raspberry and Blackberry). You can taste and purchase our wines at the farm during the fresh blueberry season, or you can visit us at the Ithaca Farmers Market.
Summer has never tasted better.
Not only do blueberries possess culinary versatility, but they are also very good for your health. Recent studies show that blueberries are very high in antioxidants. Although studies are as yet inconclusive, antioxidants appear to play a role in preventing cancer, heart disease, and the aging process.
